Johnson’s refusal to sack Hancock while stating that he accepted his apology and that the matter is closed leads us down several dark alleys.
Johnson’s underlying sympathy for Hancock’s position mirrors his own marital history. It is well known that Johnson brushed aside his affair with Jennifer Arcuri, abetted by the media. A liaison helpfully subsidised by the taxpayer.
Indeed, Hancock’s affair with Coladangelo is small beer compared with Johnson’s catalogue of infidelities. It is reported that Johnson habitually complains about his straightened financial circumstances in the face of continuing and mounting costs accumulated by his past indulgences. The concomitants of cronyism, dodgy accountancy, untendered major contracts and nepotism all function as the apparatus of the way he runs his government. Despite such largesse his complaints continue.
As Johnson keenly feels, Hancock will have to fund his ex-wife’s settlement and their three children. Now that Ms Coladangelo has lost her job she will need support as will her three children. Johnson, the serial adulterer, might have warned Hancock that the deceit game becomes expensive when demands exceed ministerial salaries.
No doubt Hancock will ring around his numerous sponsors and donors demanding a return of favours of which there have been plenty. These are well established by Johnson himself.
Political historians tell us that fascist regimes appoint friends and associates in government positions so that governmental power and authority become a profitable joint venture. One that benefits from covert and even overt media tolerance.
These mechanisms ensure that government itself and governmental friends are shielded from accountability.
One might wonder whether echoes in all this are found in the collected works of Joseph Goebbels and Leni Riefenstahl?
Surely not in our current democracy!
Excellent political commentary from denizens of littlewoodacott...keep the pork barrels rolling!
